The Very Hungover Caterpillar by Josie Lloyd & Emlyn Rees

I've mentioned before, I'm sure, but I work in a bookshop. Thanks to this I get to see exciting new books as soon as we get them in and one caught my eye that I simply had to buy.

With a title like The Very Hungover Caterpillar it's pretty hard to resist buying. I bought it as a gift as my boyfriend and I have an in-joke from years ago when he climbed in to a sleeping bag saying he was a caterpillar. If that joke didn't exist between us then it would be a gift for someone who has a small child because then, the entirity of the gift would include The Very Hungover Caterpillar (for the parent(s)) alongside the original The Very Hungry Caterpillar and maybe a small Very Hungry Caterpillar toy* or plush.

The Very Hungover Caterpillar was published in November 2014 and is a funny parody of our beloved Very Hungry Caterpillar - a man has a hangover and eats through all kinds of food, mimicing the original, before curling up in his blanket cocoon. Although it doesn't have the same whimsical painted illustrations or the half pages with the holes in (everybody's favourite part I'm sure), the illustrations are wonderful and it makes a lovely, funny gift perfect for new families this Christmas.

When I was researching around I found this awesome youtube video of Eric Carle reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar so thought I'd put that in as well to pull at some nostalgia.
