Olive & Bean, Newcastle

Yesterday I pulled the early shift at work (which required me getting up at 6:30am, I don't know how people do that on a regular basis) and afterwards I went for a little treat at Olive & Bean to get over a full on day of being a retail assistant in the busy festive period.

Olive & Bean is right next to the Grainger Market and the new (well, it's not new new) Tesco on Clayton Street, located at 17-19 Clayton Street. They serve home-baked goodies, hot drinks, lunches, brunches and all sorts of wonderful things. What was brilliant about heading to somewhere just after 5 is it not being busy, normally I've been to Olive & Bean in the middle of a Saturday and it's a struggle to find a table but last night there were only a few customers in so it was easy to grab a seat. On this dark, cold winter's evening I was in the mood for a Luxury Hot Chocolate and a big old chocolatey slab of cake.

I fulfilled my want and ordered the Mars Bar Slab which was chocolate lover's heaven. What I love is that they call their cake selection slabs because you do get a really nice big chunk. It only looks small here in comparison to the mug, but let me tell you that cup is oversized. Go big or go home, my motto in life. I'll be honest, the slab was dry at the edge but only for a short distance. I couldn't get over how fantastically gooey it was in the centre  which completely made up for the minor dryness and I devoured this in no time. It's so much better than a real Mars Bar and it exceeded all expectations I had. That slab was the highlight of our little sit down most definitely. The Luxury Hot Chocolate was exactly that, luxurious and what a treat to have marshmallows and cream for free! Including my boyfriend's Flat White and Peanut Butter Slab, I spent £12.50 here and for such generous portions, friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere I'd happily pay that again.

Chocolate lover's need to go and order exactly what I ordered here - you will not be disappointed! There is also a unique range of other slabs and a selection of warm drinks too if, unlike me, you go for something non-chocolatey. Olive & Bean is my mama-in-laws favourite place to visit (even on a busy Saturday) and she is more of your herbal tea and a cake that doesn't have chocolate in it type of person so I'm assured that the quality is high across the range of products.

  3. I've been in but it was so busy we couldn't get a table! Your cake looks delicious! Don't think I could manage cake and hot chocolate though without falling into a choco coma, so well done for your valiant efforts haha! Lovely little post!

    1. Thanks! It had taken years of training to be able to manage both in one sitting. I'm always too scared to get coffee in public in case it's not right!

  5. That hot chocolate looks huge so goodness knows how big the mars bar cake must've been in real life. I must admit - I've never been to Olive and Bean before but have only heard good things. I will now be torn between here and Quilliam Brothers next time I need a coffee break in town! Thanks for linking up to #LoveNorthEast

    1. It was a very generous offer! I'd struggle to pick between too - Olive & Bean is closer to the central and my laziness normally wins out :P but yeah, it's awesome :)
