Minecraft: First Impressions

It's official, I am hooked on Minecraft and I haven't been playing for very long either. I absolutely love the freedom of this game and it has something for everyone!

"Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks. At first, people built structures to protect against nocturnal monsters, but as the game grew players worked together to create wonderful, imaginative things. It can also be about adventuring with friends or watching the sun rise over a blocky ocean. It’s pretty. Brave players battle terrible things in The Nether, which is more scary than pretty. You can also visit a land of mushrooms if it sounds more like your cup of tea." (Minecraft.net)

I have played Survival and Creative, on my own and with my boyfriend and every venture in to the blocky paradise has resulted in hours (literally, hours) of fun. I've built cute homes, a base that was shaped like a gigantic Christmas tree and in survival made mines in the mountains to get me some gold. There is so much freedom that you can do whatever makes you happy.

Mark Cheverton has also wrote a series of Minecraft books that I am going to look in to reading in the new year which are a great read for Minecraft fans! So far, only two are available for purchase although he has almost finished the third and even planned out the fourth

If you get stuck there is a whole range of videos to help you. Need help finding Redstone? There's a youtube video for that. Want to build yourself a fancy castle? Got that covered too.

Yeah, definitely one to get in to. It's a lot of fun.

  1. I had to stop playing Minecraft as it was eating up ALL my free time haha! I adored that game (and still would play if I had unlimited spare time) - I loved the fact that there was really no 'goal' of the game. Open creativity was the whole point, which is just so much fun!

    1. There is so much to do as well! I've been buying the handbooks and I've learnt so many cool little things (like breeding sheep for example, I am such a noob at this)

  3. We just recently bought this on the PS4 and I've seen first hand how people can lose so much time to it. Usually my husband is pretty good at limiting how much screen time our five year old gets, but when they play this together, it's up to me to break up the block party! I'd hate to think how long they would spend playing it if I didn't come along and ruin their fun :P

    1. Haha! I agree, I have spent many any hour lost on Minecraft and my boyfriend, who also is normally very good at limiting his playing sessions, can spend hours at a time on there! it's so addictive
